Fully Guided and Fully Fun!!!

The Savage Reservoir for the past 5 years has been home to a nesting pair of Bald Eagles. This breeding pair is now the western most pair of mating eagles in Maryland. It has been exciting to see the adults teach the young eagles how to fish. Sometimes the eagles dive and catch fish right in front of or near our paddling group. Many times they perch up in the trees along the shoreline and we see them on almost every trip.

Other wildlife that has been sighted includes, black bears, osprey's, blue herons, green herons (nesting), loons, anhingas, comorants, pileated woodpeckers, red tailed hawks, sharp shinned hawks, broad winged hawks, deer, coopers hawks, kingfishers, vultures, canada geese, raccoons, mergansers, and numerous songbirds.

The Savage Wildlands (the entire eastern shore of the reservoir) is truly one of the most scenic and quiet wilderness like areas in Garrett County. If you long for a nature experience that will help you re-charge your spirit, you found it.

Have a Big Group of 40?

Check out our optional and available All Day Multi-Adventure Activity for groups up to 40. Half the group climbs a small mountain on a guided hike while the other half kayaks for 2-3 hours, eat lunch together and switch activities in the afternoon, except afternoon hikers can take a leisurely stream side trail guided hike. Great for groups with varying ability levels! A full day of fun that can be custom tailored for your group. And it all takes place in the Savage Forest away from the crowds. Chance of Thunderstorms is the normal summer forecast almost everyday. Don't let the forecast keep you inside (they are wrong alot). Rains are usually hit and miss and short lived. Weather at Deep Creek Lake can be rainy ALL DAY while 800 feet lower at the Reservoir it's just overcast. Trips run rain or shine you are expected to show up at the put-in. If weather is horrendous we will cancel. Guide carries a tarp for a dry lunch! It's a water sport so we have fun in the rain! We also have a limited supply of ponchos and rain jackets you can borrow if you forget your rain gear. Don't depend on us though, bring your own rain gear.

FALL Weather Statement: Prepare for cool weather. Always bring a change of clothes. Lightwieght nylon windbreakers and track pants are great, over shorts and t-shirts. Bring more rather than not enough and we'll help you decide what to bring. Anything you bring should be in a plastic garbage bag, even backpacks etc. Cameras? Bring a ziplock or plastic garbage bag for it.

EAGLE UPDATE
After 5 years of searching we have finally located the eagles nest. On June 12th, 2007, our tour got a great view of the nest for the first time through our powerful spotting scope. Now we will be able to at least always offer a view of the nest for interested guests. The photo of the nest below is really poor quality but through our powerful scope you get an awesome view. Notice the eagle perching to the left of the nest. This appears to be the secondary nest and we are still searching for the primary nest.

Current Eagle News: Eaglet was sighted July 14th 2008. It has been laying low and making itself scarce since. We are hopeful it is ok, but frankly a little concerned since it appears to be following last years fledgling as being somewhat of an enigma and very shy?
